Alter Lights are convenient to use as they burn faster than the more commonly found 6" Offertory Candles during prayer, when casting a magic spell, or doing hoodoo candle work. HOODOO
Most folks burn glass encased candles straight through. If you
chose to burn them for short periods, put them out, and then relight them, you will probably need to use fireplace matches to get them going again.
Unless you want glass encased vigil candles NOT to be dressed,
prepared, fixed and prayed over for you, we will do this work for
you and there will be no extra charge. Please let us know your
specific needs when you order, or the vigil candles WILL be
dressed and fixed. Dressed candles are shipped with cling-film
over the top to keep the added herbs, oils, and other contents in
place. They are ready to burn when you remove the cling film.
Please note that we only dress or prepare glass encased vigil and
novena candles, not other types of candles.
Also be aware that glass encased candles are HEAVY. The online
price reflects not only the cost of the candle, but also the cost
of shipping to the average residential address in the USA.
Non-USA (overseas) customers for these particular candles will
incur considerable additional shipping costs.
If you cannot burn vigil or novena candles in your home for any
reason (for instance, because of safety concerns or because you
do not want anyone in the home to see them burning -- or if you
live overseas and do not want to incur the cost of shipping) we will prepare and pray over lights for you on your behalf
and take them next door to be burned on the
on the consecrated altars of
Missionary Independent Spiritual Church.

GLASS ENCASED VIGIL CANDLES
These candles have colourful paper artwork labels with spells and prayers on the back. They are made of soft wax in colours appropriate to the conditions for which they are used. The
candles will burn continually for at least 120 hours. The fact
that stay alight for many days has earned them the name "vigil
lights." It is customary to dress them with anointing oils as
they are burned.

Burning Candles in the Hoodoo Tradition

Due to requests from those who regularly perform candle-work at
their altars, we carry pull-out candles -- refills for novena and
vigil lights. Before ordering, please note that our pull-outs are
2 inches wide and 7 inches tall. These pull-outs do not fit every
single brand of novena or vigil light. There are at least three
different patterns of moulds used on the glass for novenas. Wide-mouth novenas made in glass jars DO take the pull-outs but narrow-mouth novenas do NOT accommodate them. We use the wide-mouthed style for some of our Lucky Mojo branded candles, and the pull-outs work with these. It is up to you to determine whether 2 inch wide pull-out candles will or will not work with your novenas and vigil lights. We cannot accept returns because you failed to measure your glass candle jars. Basically, if the top inch of the glass is straight-sided with a groove, and the candle jar is 2" wide at he mouth, then the pull-outs will will work, but if it is constricted and narrow at the top or less than 2" in diameter, they will not fit. |

Lux Perpetua means "eternal light" and that is the name given to paper-encased votive candles in Latin America. They are made of
soft tallow wax and encased in stiff paper, This old-fashioned, hand-made style of devotionary religious candle predates paraffin was candles in style. Lux Perpetua lights are much sought by those working in traditional forms of Mexican and Latin American
espiritismo (spiritualism) and curandismo (herbal spiritual healing).

Votive candles are candles moulded to fit into a glass or ceramic votive holder. They can be burned as free-standing lights
(sometimes called "stubbies") rather than placed in holders if you wish to "read" the way their wax melts for the purposes of
divination.
Our votives are 2 inches tall and 1 1/2 inches in diameter. When in a holder, they burn for 10 - 15 hours. They will fit in most sizes of glass or ceramic votive candle holders or can be used as free-standing "stubbies", which will make for a shorter burn time. |

Long has mankind used fire for protection, survival and religious
devotion.
In 1942, Henri Gamache published The Master Book of Candle Burning
which introduced "The Philosophy of Fire" to the rootwork community.
Candles have long been a part of religious and magical practice.
Historically, the most common type of candle used in Hoodoo was the
white utility candle. With the introduction by Henri Gamache, conjure
doctors began to make use of both colored candles and figural candles.
